The sun will be in the second third of Aquarius on the 30th January until the 8th of February. Golden Dawn assigned a Minor Arcana card to each Decan, a Decan being a third of each Zodiac sign. Each Minor Arcana card, except the Aces, gets one of these thirds. You can see a chart HERE.
This means, that the 'Six of Swords' will be the next Tarot card for this Decan and its picture represents the qualities of the Mercury in Aquarius.
Mercury is symbolised as the messenger of the gods, and is associated with our intellect and mental outlook, the way we think and communicate.
If a typical Aquarian is is a intellectual free thinker and Mercury is a planet associated with mentality and intellectual outlook they are both going to mix very well, which is why Aquarius is ruled by the planet mercury, his 'home' planet'.
The image shows three figures, an adult and child with 6 swords in their possession sitting within the boat and a driver who is taking them across the river to a serene and peaceful place. Its as if the figure in the boat is Aquarius taking his thoughts (the swords in the boat) back to his homeland, Mercury. A place which will placate and accentuate his need to think freely, a place where he doesn't have to explain explain his thinking or put up with the mentality of others. He is travelling to a place of balance and harmony, a place where he can indeed have freedom to think. The fact he is travelling over water, water being the symbol of our emotional side, shows that he is ignoring his emotional, feeling side to concentrate on his thoughts instead. However, it's the emotional, feeling part of our nature that makes us conscientious of those around us and which allows us to socialise well with others.
This card teaches us that sometimes we need to quietly stick with our own thoughts and idea's and to avoid letting our emotions get in the way. When we trust in our own thoughts, idea's, and ignore the opinions and emotional needs of others, we can achieve peace and harmony.
