It's pouring with rain. The snow, although cold was so much more brighter and fun. My children are running around and annoying me. How can they be so loud and happy at this time in the morning! But I mustn't complain, the news of Haiti is deeply saddening, the death of so many people at the hands of nature is a huge reminder that Nature is a Power to be respected and revered. A power that many forget in the search for God.
My reading today asks "What do I need to do today?" and using the 'Fairy Tarot' I pulled the Knight of Pentacles (Bells), 'The Hanged Man' and the 'Eight of Cups (Hearts). I am going to refer to both the Rider-Waite and the Fairy Tarot for interpretation.
Fairy Tarot
The 'Knight of Pentacles' appeared yesterday in regards, I suspect, to a tiff that is going between me and the Ol' Man over money! The Knight tells of changes on the home and money and primarily relates to people in the Querent's life (that would be me). The Ol' Man blames me for his money loss despite supporting him this week and was trying to punish me for it, I was having none of it (la de da!). The Ol' Man and I both have an axe to grind, so does the 'Knight of Pentacles'!
'The Hanged Man' tells me through his broken wings, upside-down pose and eyes looking to the reflection in the water, that this argument is damaging and its time to step back and to see past any trivialities and to look for a deeper reason.
'The Eight of Cups' tells me to walk away from argument and to be happy instead. Both the 'Eight of Cups and 'The Hanged Man' are cards that say "Time Out!" and "Don't get too involved, you can't see clearly when you're emotional".
So, it seems that today I should quit the argument with the Ol' Man because it is a trivial argument, especially when compared to the tragedy of Haiti, when everyone who is saddened by it will be reflecting upon the why the tragedy happened and its connection to life, just as the 'Hanged Man' reflects in the picture above. The 'Eight of Cups' (in both the Rider-Waite and Fairy Tarot) shows forgiveness, that to forgive him, no matter how much he has narked me off, will allow my heart to be free and able to see just how trivial and childish it was in the first place .
Like the Hanged Man, stepping out of a situation lets you see from another perspective (he is tied up looking at himself through the reflection in the pool). In order to step out of this argument, I need to forgive the Ol' Man and to walk away from it. True Wisdom is seeing from all angles, and especially by looking at yourself from the outside. This is why Tarot is a good tool, it allows you to view yourself from an outside perspective. Now I feel both silly and yet a bit wiser!
But why didn't the Tarot point this out yesterday? Probably because I wasn't in the right frame of mind. I wouldn't have forgiven him without time to be alone. Yesterdays reading paved the way so that I would listen and act upon today's reading.
UPDATE 17/01/2010 09:39
Yesterday I sent a text message to the Ol' Man asking him to come around but didn't get a reply. It looks like the Court card at the beginning of the yesterday's reading, specifically meant that the Ol' Man had walked away from the argument! Perhaps he has gone up North to see his family for the weekend, hinted at through the playing children in the 'Eight of Cups'
