The sun will be in the first third of Aries from the 21th March until the 30th March. As well as assigning a sign of the Zodiac to each Major arcana cards, the Golden Dawn assigned a Minor Arcana card to each Decan, a Decan being a third of each Zodiac sign. Each Minor Arcana card, except the Aces, gets one of these thirds. You can see a chart HERE.Mars in astrology represents pure power. He is the driving force behind everything we do. Once we have decided to do something with our heart and mind, we need the energy, ambition, drive and desire to do it, and Mars provides these qualities.
The sign of Aries also represents power and energy too and is ruled by the planet Mars. Their energies are the more or less the same and work harmoniously and powerfully when together. Aries is an ever-growing power that seeks to take over and dominate it's environment, like the wild fire and the Sun as it waxes and grows turning spring into summer.
Mars in Aries does not think or feel, it acts with speed and accuracy. Mars in Aries also represents the primal instinct to survive and fight back when cornered or challenged. In this situation, we cannot afford to think up a plan of action or to get upset or scared, we have to take immediate action to get ourselves out a tight spot. The primal instinct also gives us the drive and ambition to dominate the environment and our fellow man in order to gain the best jobs, food, accommodation, luxuries etc, The same instinctual power that puts the lion at the top of the food chain and the power of the burning fire that consumes everything in its path.
The 'Two of Wands' shows a man standing upon an elaborate, castle style balcony, that is situated above and overlooks the land. He is dressed in red and orange, the colours of a burning fire and looks like a flame himself. His left hand holds on to a wand that is mounted into the wall of the castle and within his right hand he holds a small version of the world. There is another wand to his right that has been mounted on to the wall.
I shall call this man 'Aries'. Aries owns the land and the castle upon it, for he holds the wand that has been set deep in to the castle walls showing us that he has staked his place in society. He has established himself over the land, like the flame that has been lit and began to burn. Our particular castle may be our home, whether we live with our parents or own our own house. It may be a business that we own, it may be savings that we have in the bank, or a caravan or home we own abroad.
Now that Aries has established himself, he wants more and looks for new opportunities to expand his estate, just as the fire will always seeks to keep burning. We can see that Aries has the world within his sights as looks over the land and sea from his castle and from the way that he holds his globe in front of him. This card tells us that that we are looking for opportunities to establish ourselves within the world. Our ambition, drive and need for more urge use to take action, to branch out and to secure our place in society. But we must find a way to do it first.
We may be looking to study or to start a new job. We may be looking for a new home, or a bigger home. We may want to start a new business, or be looking for ways to grow and expand our business. Perhaps we have come into money and are looking for ways to use it to our advantage. We may even be looking to sabotage or invade another person's business, home or job! However we may be looking achieve it, this card tells us we must have the desire and ambition and to look an opportunity, before being able to take action and get what we want.
